Many times, as I travel, believers ask, “How can we pray for you?” Nothing anyone asks means more to me than that. I want and need the prayers of God’s people more than anything else.
I ask them to pray for three things:
- Safety—Some years I’ve stepped onto 80 different planes. I travel on roads that are unfamiliar to me. On the foreign field, I’ve ministered in places where there has been a level of hostility against Christianity. I’ve found myself in places facing the threat of severe weather. There have been days, although few, that my life was threatened by those who felt I “ruined” their friends by introducing them to Christ. Knowing people are praying for my safety means everything.
- Health—Health is important in any ministry, but especially when you are traveling. Though I do everything I can through diet and exercise to stay physically fit, traveling in itself is physically demanding. I believe the prayers of God’s people are one of the reasons that in more than 40 years of traveling, I have only missed one engagement due to illness. Only one! Prayers for health make a big difference!
- Spiritual Fruit—I want to see multitudes come to the Savior. I want to see tens of thousands trained every year in evangelism. Ministry wise, I don’t desire growth for growth sake, but growth for the ministry’s sake. Personally, and throughout the entire outreach of EvanTell, I want to see an abundance of spiritual fruit. That only comes as believers ask God to continue using our meager efforts in an eternal way. So, I tell believers, “Pray that God will give us so much spiritual fruit that it’s clearly evident He is powerfully at work.”
Safety, health, and spiritual fruit. If believers just pray for me in those areas, I’ll never be able to adequately express my gratitude.
